What?
Building and road construction company.
When?
June 2005 - July 2005
Why?
It's just the name - Screg.
What happened?
This was a pretty short lived obsession, which appeared around the same time as
several others - Nestle Man and Self Tissus predominantly. While on holiday in
France, I noticed a sign by the roadside that simply read "Screg".
We
drove past the sign a lot, and, although I had no idea what it meant, I still
felt like I had to keep
an eye on it. I couldn't put my finger on why, but it was definitely a bit of an
obsession. That would probably have been that, except that on the way home we
stopped at a service station which was in the process of being rebuilt. The
first thing I noticed was a road sign with "Screg" written on the back. As a
photo captured the moment, a veritable armada of Screg trucks suddenly appeared,
closely followed by an equally impressive army of Screg employees. The great
thing was that they were branded from head to foot; Screg high-visibility
waistcoats, Screg hard hats, you get the idea. John and I managed to snap off a
couple of photographs of a Screg truck on the move (which is why it's so far to
the left of the picture) before being hustled back into the car by everyone
else.
When Will it End?
Screg would have ended as an obsession when I last saw the sign by the road, if
it hadn't been for the lucky encounter at the service station. That said, just
to make things complete, I would quite like a matchbox version of a vehicle in
Screg corporate colours, if such a thing exists. Anyway, as it stands, I've
closed it..
Loose Ends
The following loose ends still remain.
If you can answer them, please
contact me.
- Are there any models of vehicles in Screg livery?
Play Along at Home
I can't remember which service station I found Screg at, and the sign is
probably long gone. However, if you peruse the Screg website at
www.screg.fr, you'll see that they seem like a
pretty big operation. If you keep your eyes open in France, I reckon you'll spot
a Screg related item pretty quickly.
